As the SSH Fund continues year two of its ambitious mission to drive innovation and research and broaden access to the Society, I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who supported the SSH Fund in 2023. Your generosity will enable us to distribute $70,000 to initiatives that you, our outstanding community, told us were important to you.
This translates to immediate impact! The Board of Directors, in consultation with the Development Committee and the Finance & Audit Committee, determines the disbursement amounts with the goal of striking a balance between generating rapid opportunities and building long-term financial stability, as well as consistent support for the SSH community. We are proud that 100% of funds raised will be directed to SSH member projects. I am excited to announce that the Board has approved the following disbursements this year as recommended by the Development Committee:
- $50,000 to support Research Grants for Early Career and Experienced Researchers – the process for distributing the funds will be managed by the Research Committee.
- $5,000 to support SIMventors Awards – the competition at IMSH 2025 in Orlando this January will be the first to offer financial prizes. These funds will be managed by the Technology Committee.
- $10,000 to support additional Beverlee Anderson Scholarships – there will be additional scholarships available for IMSH 2025. These funds will be managed by the Internal Relations Committee.
- $5,000 to support the Chad Epps Endowment - these funds will support the keynote lecturer on the first day of IMSH. The speakers are chosen to provide a lecture that will inspire and continue creating a community of practice we all enjoy.
- More than $65,000 will be directed to the development of a long-term endowment fund that will support research grants, scholarships, and similar initiatives into the future.
The SSH is committed to using your contributions productively each year. Your gifts in 2024 to the SSH Fund will continue to support these important initiatives... Over time, the priorities of the Fund will adapt to reflect the evolving needs and desires of our members and the broader simulation community.
At this January’s Board Meeting during IMSH in San Diego, every member of the Board of Directors once again pledged to make a gift in 2024 in support of the SSH Fund, which ends on December 31, 2024. Every gift is important, regardless of its the size – including yours! Please join us in elevating the field of healthcare simulation by supporting the SSH Fund today. Thank you!
