Dr. Chad Epps, an anesthesiologist by specialty, is a former Board of Directors member (2015-2017) and past President of the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (2016). Chad held many leadership roles in the society, as healthcare simulation was his passion, becoming hooked after a simulation fellowship at Mount Sinai in New York.
Chad became the Associate Director in the office of Interprofessional Simulation for Innovative Clinical Practice at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and established an infrastructure for the entire campus and health system. He next took this system-wide thinking to the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, where he served as Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation, leading a similar expansion in interprofessional education.
When Chad passed unexpectedly in 2020, the healthcare simulation community was stunned and saddened. Chad’s lovely wife, Deborah reached out to several members of the Society with a suggestion that funds be raised to benefit an organization that had meant so much to Chad. A task force was formed, and the Chad Epps Endowment was started.
